Behind the Scenes

So, what goes into making our art? Well, it starts like this:

It Starts With a Moment

Each design begins with a photo of something small and beautiful that might otherwise go unnoticed. A fallen leaf on concrete. A shadow across a flower petal. A curve in the bark of a tree. These are the details I collect with my camera, drawn to the quiet elegance of nature as it exists within everyday life. Sometimes, I’ll even take pictures of bright, varied colors for inspiration and later use.

Then Comes the Photography

I go through the pictures I’ve taken and decide which ones are good to stand on their own. Is it framed well enough? Would cropping it affect how it is displayed on a product I’ve chosen for my store? Is it eye-catching? Do I like it? Sometimes, blemishes need to be smoothed, the photo needs to be brightened, or a picture needs to be stylized.

Those That Can’t Pass Get Patterned

Some images just aren’t right, or I took multiple photos to try and get the right one. Or sometimes I took a picture as inspiration for colors for a pattern. I usually process the image to achieve the desired results before running my work through a pattern-making app called Repper, and I find as many potential patterns as I can. Usually, only one makes the cut.

Selecting the Right Product

Currently, I have selected 24 different product types to sell on my site that best display patterns and arts - 12 products for photography and 12 for patterns. These products may change over time, but I prepare them to best display the artworks in your home.

The Studio (That’s Often a Laptop + a Mug of Tea)

My studio is wherever I can slow down and create - from my desk at home to a sunlit table near a window. It’s not flashy, but it’s full of intention. Every design you see is something I’ve sat with, adjusted, and worked into something I genuinely love.

Why It Matters

Behind every product is a desire to help others notice the beautiful, grounding moments around them, whether through a bold pattern, a peaceful photo, or a design that sparks joy. That’s what Blu Crane Arts is all about: art you can live with, and meaning woven into the everyday.
